Sludge Treatment
Municipal sludge is the main potential secondary polluting source during sewage treatment since it contains a large number of organic pollutants and hazardous components such as pathogens, heavy metals and carcinogenic chemicals. Veolia has built and operates many urban sludge treatment plants throughout the world. In doing so it has developed a unique expertise in landfill gas fermentation, soil remediation applications, waste to energy, cement recycling and other recycling technologies – sludge composting treatment and co-combustion of sludge and municipal solid waste being the most mature of Veolia’s widely-used technologies. The experience and expertise which Veolia has garnered over the years is continuously reducing and preventing the emission of greenhouse gases, especially as relates to sludge treatment, where exchanges, internal communication and the sharing of resources and talent will better enable the development of sludge treatment opportunities/projects with municipalities in China.
Veolia has constructed the largest sludge treatment plant in the world in Hong Kong
Matthias Fekl, Secretary of State for Foreign Trade, and Antoine Frérot, Veolia CEO, opened the largest sewage sludge treatment plant in the world at Hong Kong today. This plant has its own independent water and energy supplies, and treats sludge from eleven sewage stations in the region, covering 7.2 million inhabitants. The plant combines urban ecology and lifestyle, not to mention exceptional architecture.
Veolia: the pioneer of environmental conservation industry in China
Veolia has a strong presence in China, where its waste, water and energy activities are at the heart of sustainable development in China: resource conservation, environmental protection, recycling and sustainable economy, and social development.
New Organization: Veolia Environnement organizes its operations by geographic zones
As part of the transformation of Veolia Environnement, Antoine Frérot, Chairman and CEO, today announced the company's new organization. The transformation is based on two major advances: a country-based organization for the water and waste management activities placed under the authority of a single director per country and the creation of two new functional departments: one dedicated to Innovation and Markets, the other to Technique and Performance.
